India Allows Transshipment of Bangladesh Exports via Delhi Air Cargo

15 February 2023

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) of the Government of India has amended Circular 29/2020-Customs, dated 22 June 2020, allowing the transshipment of Bangladesh export cargo to third countries via Delhi Air Cargo beginning 15 February 2023. Previously, air transshipment of Bangladesh export cargo to third countries was conducted only via the Kolkata air cargo complex.

The goods from Bangladesh are loaded on containers/closed-bodied trucks from the Petrapole land customs station. These move by road to Kolkata Air Cargo or the Delhi Air Cargo Complex, to be airlifted and transported to third countries.

The amendment promotes better cargo evacuation and improved logistics efficiency. A report by the Business Standard notes that Delhi Airport has expansive international flight connections and greater market reach, with chartered freighter capacity growing, thanks to an influx of cargo-only start-ups and global express logistics leaders like UPS and DHL beefing up their Indian services.
